Connect a .ng domain to Netlify

Keep DNS here, host on Netlify. Netlify calls this external DNS.

Netlify’s preferred apex answer is an ALIAS or ANAME record pointing at apex-loadbalancer.netlify.com. Our DNS editor does not offer ALIAS or ANAME, so use the A-record fallback Netlify documents for exactly this case.

The records

TypeName / HostValue
A@75.2.60.5Netlify’s documented fallback for DNS providers without ALIAS/ANAME support. Netlify’s High-Performance Edge customers are given different addresses in the Netlify UI.
CNAMEwwwyour-site-name.netlify.appYour own site’s Netlify subdomain, e.g. brave-curie-12345.netlify.app.

Read from Netlify's own documentation on 9 September 2026 — the source is linked at the foot of this page. If your dashboard shows something different from what is here, your dashboard is right: use it.

Step by step

  1. 1In Netlify, open the site, then Domain management, and add your custom domain.
  2. 2Netlify names your site’s .netlify.app subdomain — note it down.
  3. 3In the OneBit panel, open the domain, go to DNS, and add the A record for the apex.
  4. 4Add the CNAME for www pointing at your site’s .netlify.app subdomain.
  5. 5Delete any old records on the same hosts.
  6. 6Back in the domain, open DNS check and confirm the resolvers agree with what you just set. That is the difference between "I saved the record" and "the internet can see it".

Worth knowing before you start

  • Netlify’s own documentation notes DNS changes can take up to 24 hours to propagate globally. The DNS check tells you how far along it actually is rather than leaving you to guess.

Then check it worked

Saving a record and the internet seeing a record are two different events. Open the domain in the panel and run the DNS check: it asks twenty public resolvers directly, including ipNX in Nigeria, and shows you which already have the new answer. More on what the check covers.

Questions

Why an A record rather than the ALIAS Netlify recommends?
Because our DNS editor supports A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, NS and SRV — not ALIAS or ANAME. Netlify documents the A record for precisely this situation.
Can I use Netlify DNS instead?
Yes. Point the nameservers at Netlify from the panel — the registry accepts between two and five. Move your MX and TXT records over first if you have mail on the domain.
Which should be the main address, apex or www?
Either. Set both records, choose one as canonical in Netlify, and it will redirect the other.
